Musician’s Network Meeting Minutes 09/04/17

Open Mic is Thursday! Signups at 7:30, show at 8:00. This week’s theme is Addictive Substances

New Band Showcase is coming up! Sign up here. Sign ups close Friday, September 1st, and bands will be announced the following Monday. Rules can be found here

Officer Announcements: 

Booking: If there’s a band you want to see or if you’re interested in joining the booking committee, come talk to me.

Open Mic: I run Open Mic nights every Thursday from 8:00 to 11:00, with signups at 7:30. I’m also in charge of live sound, so if you’re interested in learning more about that, come talk to me. I teach live sound classes Sundays at noon. I also run the YouTube channel, so if there’s anything you want to see, or you want to get involved with filming or photography, come talk to me.

Treasurer: Dues are $10 yearly, practice fees are $15. Pay dues before booking practice time. If you pay your dues, you’ll get a T-shirt.

Studio Manager: Contact me if you want to book studio time. I run the studio. The studio is now open. It’s a resource for students to produce music in. The rates are up on the website. Studio sound class will be this Sunday; this weeks topic will be recording drums. Live sound class is from 12 – 1 on Sundays and Studio Sound is from 1 – 2.

Minister of Propaganda: I am in charge of all things advertising. Our advertising committee, the Ministry of Propaganda, is a great way to get involved with the club; we produce flyers, chalk out on Skiles walkway, and more. You don’t have to be an officer to join. Also if you want to put up flyers, please do that. We have a lot of them.

Advertising:  We’re always looking for more people to make flyers and get involved in advertising, so if you’re interested, come talk to me, our other advertising officer, our Minister of Propaganda, or our Booking Officer. Also, check out lessons below.

Equipment Manager: I manage equipment, including rentals and lockers. I also run the studio, so if you need anything recorded, or have any questions about the space, come talk to me. If you wanna help me fix up cable stuff on stage, come talk to me.

General Manager: From here on out, the General Manager position will be more of a liaison with other GT organizations.

Secretary: I organize and send out meeting minutes. If you need to join Orgsync or get on the mailing list, come talk to me.

Vice President: I am in charge of booking practice times, so after paying dues and practice fees, come talk to me. If you have any other questions, come talk to me. After practicing in the space, make sure you turn everything off, wrap up cables, and have the info desk lock up the space. Talk to a GSM at the desk or call the number if they’re not there.

President: Come to our officer meetings right before the general meeting if you are interested in leadership of the club. I have been working on figuring out the changing situation regarding our relationship with the Student Center.

Chad: I am looking to acquire an Electric Guitar, either via purchase or swap. Contact me.

Jack: This Saturday, I am going to a cool new museum. I can take 10 people in my small truck. Contact Me. If you want to play open mic this week, talk to me. We are looking for cool 5 minute demos between announcement sections

Mason: I am starting to give beginner Trumpet Lessons. Talk to me

New Band Showcase 2017

BAND PRACTICE CAN BE HELD AT UNDER THE COUCH. We have a practice room equipped with guitars, basses, a drum kit, keyboards, microphones, and amps. If you have any questions, email Jed at jedpaz@gatech.edu

RULES OF ENTRY

  •  Participants must be students currently enrolled at Georgia Tech (taking classes, interning, or on a co-op — former students and non-students not eligible)
  •  Participants must submit all required correspondence and confirmation of participation by the deadline(s) for doing so (see guidelines) to avoid disqualification

GUIDELINES

Deadline for registration

  • 8pm on Friday, September 1st
  • Bands will be announced Monday, September 4th

Semi-Finals dates (tentatively):

  • November 9&10
  • Bands are expected to play 15-20 minutes of music
  • One cover song can be performed
  • Three bands will be selected to move on to the final round

Final Round date (tentatively):

  • November 17
  • Bands can play as much music as they want (within reason, please don’t play for an hour).
  • One cover song can be performed

PRIZES

  • First place: the opportunity to record a 5-song EP for free at Under the Couch
  • Second place: the opportunity to open for a concert at Under the Couch (we will help you find a show that fits your schedule and playing style)
  • Third place: free practice time for the following semester

We’re having a Groovy Friday this Thursday at 11:00 on Skiles! 

Officer Announcements: 

Advertising:  Come out to the semifinals of the New Artist Showcase next week! We’re always looking for more people to make flyers and get involved in advertising, so if you’re interested, come talk to me, our other advertising officer, our Minister of Propaganda, or our Booking Officer. Also, check out lessons below.

From here on out, the General Manager position will be more of a liaison with other GT organizations. I am also in charge booking for all GT Orgs events at utcorgbooking@gmail.com. GT Orgs must pay for a sound engineer to work the space. Further details are on the website.

Matthew: Just started a small group with Mitchell and Daniel. We are doing indie folk and rock covers. Looking for guitarist and bassist

Jack: I run Live@WREK. We are looking for more people to work it. Come out on Tuesday @ 8 if you want to learn more.

Jed: I am one half of the duet known as Junior Prom. We played on Saturday at Kappa Sig. We have made a SoundCloud and Facebook under the name Junior Prom ATL.  I am going to go see The Red Turtle and the Midtown Arts Cinema.

Chad: I am doing the New Artist Showcase and need a ghostwriter. Come talk to me. I am looking for people to help me cover songs off of the album “American Football”

Heath: Next Tuesday, I am going to Thundercats at Terminal West. It’s a great show.

Izzi: I am looking for an acoustic guitarist to do Open Mic Covers with. I am thinking punk rock songs. Send me a message.

Aditya: I just started a bollywood band. We are looking for guitarists and bassists. Come talk to me.

Chris: I am looking for a good jazz pianist who can do “polyrhythms”

Ryan: Looking for people to see Get Out with. Talk to me.

Ryan: Looking for people to participate in a 50s/60s influenced band.

Musician’s Network Meeting Minutes 2/20/2017

Officer Announcements: 

Advertising: We have been asked to be house music for the Clough Art Crawl on Thursday. If you want to participate, email Ryan. We’re always looking for more people to make flyers and get involved in advertising, so if you’re interested, come talk to me, our other advertising officer, our Minister of Propaganda, or our Booking Officer. Also, check out lessons below.

Booking: If there’s a band you want to see or if you’re interested in joining the booking committee, come talk to me.  We have an upcoming charity show on the 18th. Please come by. Its for a local food drive. We are looking to expand the current band line up. If you could donate anything, it would be greatly appreciated.

Equipment Manager: The drum situation is slowly being remedied. New cymbals are a top priority. I manage equipment, including rentals and lockers. I also run the studio, so if you need anything recorded, or have any questions about the space, come talk to me.  I have been working on organizing the lockers. We may have one locker open. By next meeting, I should have a complete list of lockers for use. I am planning on making moves in terms of improving the space soon. Major improvements include upgrading the cymbal kit for the drums.

India Club is hosting a musical event and are reaching out to Under The Couch for people to participate and attend. Look it up on Facebook under “International Harmony”, and look out for flyers around campus. It is on March 3rd.

Ryan: The India Club event is a great time and I recommend you attend.

Thomas: I am interested in trading and sharing playlists with other people. Come talk to me!

Jack: I am looking for a washboard player in my new band. Hit me up!
